Walla Walla County Meeting #4

Walla Walla discussed how media affects political involvement. We thought that new media makes it easier for an author to put information out and it is easier for more people to see it. Audiences are more inclined to take action because they have all the information at their finger tips. We also found that this influences how authors, or politicians, display their information. They will now use the media, like Twitter or Facebook, to reach more viwers because most Americans use these new forms of media. They can also get immediate feed back and opinions from viewers. Overall we thought that the author and the audience benefit from social media because the information gets out fast and to many people.

Walla Walla County discussed the Pro's and Con's of Social Media. Here is what we decided:

Facebook
Pro's: It is new information that is easily accessible.
Con's: The message can be skewed and isn't totally true.

Twitter
Pro's: You can find information about anyone at any time.
Con's: The information is basically useless.

Instagram
Pro's: Great visuals that can tell a story.
Con's: The pictures make the information look great and exciting, not always true.

Blogs
Pro's: The information in specific and you would find information that you care about because it is a blog that you want to read.
Con's: The information is not always accurate and not as up to date.

Here is a sneak peek of Walla Walla County's Topic.

We also watched a video on a French Comedian's Parody of Fox Reporters. They were afraid of their taxi driver because he had a beard and scared of a grocery store because it had a Arab name. From this we learned that a story isn't necessarily true and it needs sound evidence and one needs to decide what side the author is on and if they are biased or not.

In Walla Walla County's first meeting, we came up with a definition of news.

Definition: News is a story or an article about current events that might include public opinions on those events, and informs and educates its audience, and does not try to persuade them or sell them anything.

Walla Walla County

Hi all! Walla Walla County is excited to be coming to KYG again! Hope all is going well for all of the counties in their preparation for the conference.

We are busy planning our campaign and finalizing our platforms. We are focusing our platforms on solutions to current problems we see in our county and country. Our campaign slogan, summing up all our platforms, is "Solutions to a Brighter Future". Below are the resolutions we have thus far:

~Education: Core academic classes-English, Math, History, and Science-should be taught in smaller class sizes while Physical
Education courses should contain more persons.
~Environment: We support soil conservation.
~Energy: we support the efforts of researchers in finding new sources of energy in the form of renewable resources.
~Safety and Security: All traffic lights should remain red at one time for at least 1 sec/5 mph on the street to decrease the amount
                                    of traffic accidents that occur.

We also chose our county candidate. Walla Walla High School (WA-HI) Senior, Kayla Leinweber will be representing our county. She is very excited to be taking on the position. We are also in the process of planning our 2nd Annual KYG Valentines Day Bake Sale. WA-HI Senior Cristina Sosa is heading that endeavor - hopefully it will go off as well as last years!

We are excited to come to the conference!! Stay tuned for more posts!

Walla Walla County Enters the Ring

Walla Walla County is super excited to be part of KYG again. We have some new faces and some veterans attending this year, so the word of KYG will live on. So far we have discussed the parliamentary procedure and gone over the basic outline of what it takes to get to office, this includes the votes, the stages of voting and so on. We have yet to choose someone to run for our county, but we are still in the beginning stages, so we will get there.

We also have yet to choose a topic to run on, but once so we shall run on it with vigor.

We have written out what we think a good citizen is and our definition is :
"One who is informed about what is going on his or her community and his her government, and fulfilling one's duty to vote, participate in political discussion, and seeking to improve one's world."
